|
| How do I upgrade Tomcat? |
| Answer |
When your account was setup the most recent version of Tomcat was installed
into your account unless otherwise requested. Minor version changes are
automatically updated to /usr/local/ which is where the Tomcat core files
are located.
If your account was setup with Tomcat 5.0 the core files for this are located
in /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.0. /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.0 is simply a
symbolic link to the most recent Tomcat 5.0 version we have in /usr/local.
As an example lets say you signed up with us after Tomcat 5.0.12 was released.
As time passes new bug and security fixes are released and the Tomcat version
is incremented. Tomcat 5.0.13 is released and we create a new package that
updates the /usr/local/Jakarta-tomcat-5.0 link to point to
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.13.
Minor versions changes like this can be done with relatively zero risk of
disrupting sites. We do announce version changes and send out a notice on our
system-status mailing list as a precaution.
Major version changes, such as moving from Tomcat 5.0 to Tomcat 6.0 can be made by
sending a request to support@kattare.com.
