Free Software

  The following are some links to free software you can download and install on your PC computer.  Some are freeware, and some are shareware, you will have to view the license agreements for the individual packages after you download them.  You can find most of this software at http://www.download.com as well.  We simply provide it for your convenience.  If you own a Macintosh, and you have software you think we should link to, please email us at support@kattare.com.

  Note: These files are all compressed into ZIP archives to help speed up downloading.  If you do not already have a ZIP decompression program installed you can get a free one for Windows at http://www.winzip.com Once you have downloaded the zipped up file, decompress it, save the decompressed EXE file to your desktop or somewhere else you can easily find it, and run the EXE file by double-clicking on it.

Web Browsing

  Netscape Communicator & Netscape Navigator used to be the more popular browsers out there, but these days Firefox seems to be the clear winner for speed and functionality.  We have two versions of Netscape in our archive, however, we currently recommend using Mozilla Firefox. It's available for free from http://www.mozilla.com/.

SSH

  SSH is short for Secure Shell.  It is a secure replacement for telnet.  When you connect via telnet, everything you type, including your login name and password is sent across your network and the internet as plain text.  However, when you use SSH, your entire session with the server is encrypted.  So no one can sniff out your valuable information on the internet.  This particular implementation is the official version from the commercial creators of SSH.  We highly recommend using it when connecting to Kattare's servers.  This package also can replace ftp as it allows for secure file transfers. Note, we also highly recommend checking out PuTTY, which is available here.

Editpad Classic

  Editpad Classic is a replacement for Windows Notepad.  It allows you to open multiple files and gives you a tab for each file as well as many other enhancements.
