Kattare sustained a DoS/Bruteforce attack on
dc2-mysql-02 last night around 5:00 PM PST. It took us
about an hour to isolate the cause of the outage, but
once it was isolated, it was obvious what we needed to do.
We have been forced to block MySQL access from the
general internet on our MySQL database servers. MySQL
just doesn't handle the general internet exposure as
well as we would like and the risk of exploitation is
just too great.
The new firewall rules will not block internal access,
thus everyone's hosted applications should work fine.
In addition, our phpMyAdmin interface at
https://www.kattare.com/sqladmin/ continues to function
normally.
For those that absolutely have to have external access,
we will begin work immediately on a Members Section
interface that will allow you to plug in your IP
address and the system will grant you access that way.
Until it is in place, please email us your IP address
so that we can put in a firewall exception manually.
We are sorry about the inconvenience. It is
unfortunate, but sometimes the internet is not a very
friendly place.
