HOME3.KATTARE.COM - The file server for about half of
Kattare Datacenter #2, was down this evening from 7 pm
to just before 9 pm, PST.
It was under attack and determined to be vulnerable
to the attack because of the Linux kernel version it
was running. Thus we were forced to take it down for a
kernel upgrade to protect everyone's data. Adding to
the downtime was that it had an uptime of 518 (!!) days
and thus forced a filesystem check upon boot.
There will be some fallout, including JVMs that may
have stopped responding, and websites that may be
disfunctional following the reboot. We have done as
much mitigation as we can by rebooting all of the
webservers that mount the fileserver, but anyone that
has not submitted their boot procedures to the support
team is at risk of their JVM not coming back up.
I would encourage everyone to log in and check out
their JVMs. If you JVM did not start back up, please
let us know what needs to be done to make sure your JVM
starts at boot time so that we can integrate it into
our boot scripts.
Please accept our apologies for the difficulties.
Cheers,
Ethan Burnside & The Kattare Support Staff
