Network Update - 6/26/2008

Posted: June 26, 2008

Posted by: mcdermj

Kattare will be installing a new AT&T DS3 circuit on
Monday. This will involve some reconfiguration of our
infrastructure, but the remaining two circuits should
pick up the slack, and there should be no customer impact.

-- We are getting a new circuit from AT&T to replace
our current one. Unfortunately, this new circuit has
different IP addresses and other configuration, so it
involves work just like turning up a new circuit. We
still will have our Level3 and Verizon Business
operational, so there should be no impact on customers.
We are reconfiguring the core router though, so
unexpected things can happen.

--
FOLLOWUP ON 6/20 MAINTENANCE
--

-- The redundant management card in sw5 was installed
successfully.

-- The redundant management card in sw1 will take a
little more work since I have to move some ports around
to make room for the redundant card. I expect to
perform this maintenance sometime next week.

-- The critical facilities work has been completed,
and the remainder shouldn't have any customer impact.

-- We have turned up spanning tree on most of the
switch backbone that supports it so that we can add
some redundant links to cover us in case the individual
gigabit cards fail. Unfortunately, our switches don't
support cross-card trunking, so we have to be a little
more creative in how we do this. In the coming weeks
we will be adding links that will come up in case of
card failure.

As always, if you have questions I can answer, please
feel free to either contact support@kattare.com or
mcdermj@kattare.com.

Thanks with your patience with our continued upgrades.
